Vitae patrum - Hugo de S. Victore - Williramus de Ebersberg ('Berliner Williram') : Ms. theol. lat. qu. 140
This parchment manuscript features various religious texts such as Saints Lives (Vitae Patrum, fol. 2r-94r), texts by Hugo de S. Victore (fol. 94r-123v), and texts by Williram of Ebersberg (fol. 124r-177r) including his important bilingual Expositio in Cantica Canticorum. Williram not only offers the Latin text of the Bible, but also provides an Old High German translation and interpretation. The manuscript features two full-pages and additional illustrations and decorations. While the (main part of the) manuscript was written around 1180, the entries on the first page date from around 1210. The first page also contains a list of twenty codices. The titles were written one after the other in no recognisable order. These manuscripts either belonged to a single person in the monastery or were given to Lambach library by an unknown donor. This list gives insights into the textual world that was accessible to monks in Lambach around 1200. The Lambach book list mentions instructive texts such as Donatus’ Ars minor – a widely used introduction to Latin grammar – as well as classical texts like Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Remedia Amoris, and Epistolae.
