Inroad into Flowers by the Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris)

Bees with a long proboscis can reach the nectar in tubular flowers, e.g. Corydalis cava. However those with a short proboscis must bite a hole. In Symphytum spp. the flower construction ensures that the bee is covered in pollen whilst biting.
