Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek publishes Strategy 2020

13.10.2016

Press Release Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek

Supported by cultural and scientific institutions from all cultural sectors and started as a federal/state project, the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek has achieved key objectives of its set-up phase. The objectives and working priorities up to the year 2020 are currently formulated in the Strategy 2020 now presented.

The successfully-completed set-up phase of the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek has already clearly illustrated the enormous potential, but also the challenges, which arise when heterogeneous data from different sources are brought together and cross-linked with one another: there are currently more than 20 million objects from about 300 data partners available on the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek’s portal.

It is an extensive and constant task to establish a comprehensive and sustainable information infrastructure for providing access to, cross-linking and presenting cultural and scientific heritage. Strategy 2020 formulates the guidelines for this and describes the necessary working priorities. Starting with the vision of creating the central platform for culture and science in Germany and from the definition of strategic objectives and target groups, priorities and measures are deduced which should determine the actions in the next five years: more cultural data of better quality and establishing this as a data platform are central to this. Flanked by supporting measures such as, for example, the setting-up of advisory services and working towards better framework conditions, the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek, together with strong partners, wants to provides permanent access worldwide to the cultural heritage of all German cultural and scientific institutions.

The basis of the present publication is the detailed strategy plan 2015-2020. This is the result of an extensive strategy process undergone by both the employees and board members of the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek, together with the complete “Competence Network Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek” as well as external experts. Led by a core group, the joint objectives and planned measures were thereby extensively formulated and serve as a basis for detailed implementation concepts.

In addition, there is now an edited and shortened version in printed and electronic form (PDF) which can be sent or downloaded free of charge.
