Sailing Ships and Sailboats
The world was discovered with sailing ships! Water transport with the help of sails dates back to early antiquity. Egyptian reliefs and models bear witness to early ship types. Until the 19th century, sailing ships were the most important means of transport for goods and people when longer, intercontinental distances had to be covered. With the advent of motorised shipping, sailing has increasingly faded into the background and is nowadays mostly operated as a sport and leisure activity. But perhaps this old technique of moving around in harmony with the elements and emission-free is experiencing a revival!
