Books, bridges & great beers: Leipzig in pictures
More bridges than Venice (27 more, to be precise), the largest public book fair, Gose beer as a tradition and identity: Leipzig has many exciting faces and stories. It was first mentioned in history over 1,000 years ago, and since then it can look back on many new and old superlatives. The highest town hall tower in Germany, the oldest terminus station (Bayerischer Bahnhof) and the largest terminus station (Hauptbahnhof), the largest historical monument in Europe (Völkerschlachtdenkmal), the second largest park cemetery in Germany (with huge crypts up to 150 m²), Johann Sebastian Bach and Friedrich Schiller also worked here. And Leipzig is international: known as ‘Little Paris’ because of its street lamps, it can be found as ‘New Leipzig’ in North Dakota, a small town called Leipzig in Saskatchewan, Canada, and it is also represented as a municipality in Russia. We have brought together all kinds of Leipzig highlights from our portal in this picture gallery.
